Version 1.2.0
Install the extension
The new tab runs on your computer. The first time it opens, you can create an account with Google, GitHub, or email and a password. Skip it and the briefing still works. Saved stories stay on the machine until you sign in.
Load it in Chrome
Unzip
Open the zip. You want the folder that holds manifest.json.
Extensions page
Visit chrome://extensions. Chrome does not allow sites to link there.
Developer mode
Switch it on in the corner. This is normal for an extension that isn't in the store yet.
Load unpacked
Select that folder. Open a new tab. TinyDevz replaces the blank one.
To get Chrome's default new tab back, turn the extension off on that same page. You don't have to delete it.
Where things live
- tinydevz.com is this site.
- tinydevz.com/extension is the install page and the zip.
- tinydevz.com/briefing is the same new tab, in a normal window.
- The new tab stays on the extension, so the address bar is empty and ready to type. The briefing comes from tinydevz.com, or from tinydevz.onrender.com if that domain isn't answering.
If you later point ext.tinydevz.com at the same Render service, that host opens this install page. One service covers the site, the feed, and the download. A second hostname is optional.
Chrome Web Store
The zip is also the store upload: manifest.json is at the root of the archive. After the listing is approved, this page can send the button there. Until then, Load unpacked is the install.
